Drumming sessions at Cluny 2

Play your way around the world and never leave Newcastle in a series of events organised by Newcastle Drum Centre and one of the North East's top drummers, Graeme Hare of Drumming Workshops.

Drumming circles

The events will attract people who have an interest in drumming/world music and would enjoy taking part in a group session playing a range of ensemble pieces from around the world. Drumming is a great stress release and its a fantastic way to make new friends.

You will embark on a musical journey around the world using authentic drums and hand percussion to create authentic sounding music including African rhythms, South American Samba, Afro-Cuban Salsa, an introduction to Boomwhackers (Big plastic musical tubes... Think along the lines of Stomp the musical) and other rhythm games. The players will meet like minded people and will leave the session feeling energised and inspired.

Interactive sessions throughout February 2012

The sessions should last between 1 and a half to 2 hours and no former musical tuition, or previous experience is required, as Graeme uses words and sentences to help the player 'find' the beat or rhythm. The interactive sessions take place throughout February 2012 at the Cluny 2, next to the original Cluny in Lime Street, in the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle. The Cluny 2 can take up to about 200 people so there is plenty room for spectators at this unique event. Refreshments will be available they have a fully stocked bar that will be open.

Morning and afternoon sessions will be held on the following dates, which are all Saturdays. The times are 11.00 - 1.00 for the morning slots, and 2.00 - 4.00 in the afternoon.

  • 4th February
  • 11th February
  • 18th February
  • 25th February

The price for this very special morning/afternoon of music is a very reasonable 25 per head.
(Please note: Children must be supervised by an adult)
